Customs and luggage

Customs

According to Brazilian regulations, each traveller can bring a computer and a photo camera for personal use, without the need for declaring such items upon entering the country.

Attention! Keep the asset declaration form safely with you until the end of your trip, as it must be presented to airport authorities upon departure. Losing the form may result in a fine.

If you intend to enter Brazil with more than R$ 10,000, or a foreign currency equivalent, in cash or traveller's cheques, you must declare the amount to the Brazilian Federal Revenue Office before the trip, through an electronic form.

Cargo

Delegations wishing to bring cargo to Brazil must be aware that admission depends on previous customs control and sanitary authorization. Diplomatic representations should appoint personnel to be responsible for following-up the procedures.

Wooden pallets for cargo require a Phytosanitary Certification, Treatment Certification or IPPC identification authorized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in order to avoid non-admission or delay in clearance procedures.

Delegations wishing to bring food as cargo for personal consumption must send a packing-list to Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply at gab-rj@agricultura.gov.br. Requests must be send at least twenty days before arrival, in order to guarantee the expedition of the Import Authorization form.

Luggage

For furher information about what you may or may not carry in your luggage when coming into Brazil, as well as the procedures involved in bringing luggage into the country, visit the website of the Brazilian Federal Revenue Office.

On international flights, restrictions vary according to country of origin or destination. We recommend you to check regulations for each country before packing

>>Hold baggage
On domestic flights, each passenger may dispatch up to 23 kg of luggage, in one or more volumes, including special baggage (surfboards, musical instruments and others). Pets travelling in the aircraft hold are not included in the 23 kg limit.
