Transportation of domestic animals
According to Brazilian zoo-sanitary requirements, the CZI for dogs and cats entering the country must contain the following information:
- Identification of the person sending the animal: full name, home address (street number, city, state and country);
- Identification of the person who owns the animal: full name, home address (street number, city, state and country);
- Identification of the animal: name, breed, date of birth, size, coat and distinctive marks;
- Origin: name of the country;
- Destination: name and address of the recipient;
- Health information
Rabies vaccines are required for dogs and cats over three months old, and vaccination must occur at least thirty days before the date of entry of the animal, in the case of the first vaccination - valid for one year;
Animals from reportedly rabies-free countries do not need to present rabies vaccination certificates. In this case, the international animal health certificate (CZI) must specify that the country is free of the disease;
The Animal Health Certificate must prove that the animal in question was examined within ten days prior to boarding, and did not show any clinical signs of diseases peculiar to the species;
In the case of animals from countries that have officially declared, at the OIE, that African Horse Sickness and / or Rift Valley Fever exists within their territory, the certificate shall also contain the following information;
(i) that, in the place of origin and within a radius of fifty (50) kilometers from that place, there have been no cases of the diseases mentioned in the heading of this subsection, in the last 3 (three) years;- animals that meet the above requirements will not undergo import quarantine. In case of suspected infectious, zoonotic or high-risk diseases, veterinary authorities shall determine which measures must be taken to ensure their isolation and corresponding sanitary measures; and
- The animals were placed in suitable and safe conditions for transport.
- Official stamp;
- Date and Place where the CZI was issued;
- Signature, name and address of the official veterinarian.
Specifically in the case of Member States of the European Union, additionally to the required CZI, if the owner wishes to return to those countries with an animal, it must carry a transponder (microchip) that complies with ISO Standard 11784 or Annex "A" of Standard 11785.
Other transponder models may be used, but it is important to note that the individual would need to carry the microchip reader with him / her, since inspectors only work with readers designed for chips that are in accordance with that particular ISO Standard. In addition, according to European norms, animals must not only be vaccinated against rabies, but their owners must also present the results of serological testing in order to scan for rabies antibodies.
Otherwise, they cannot return to their destinations for a period of four months, which is the minimum time needed for blood collection, analysis and boarding of the animal. A single serological test is valid for the entire lifespan of the animal, provided it does not miss vaccination dates.
