SEBRAE is the first official partner in Brazil for the Rio+20 Conference
The partnership was confirmed after review of concepts
and actions for sustainable development adopted by the entity Sebrae, the Brazilian Service of Support to Micro and
Small Enterprises, is the first official partner of the United Nations’
Conference on Sustainable Development - Rio+20, to be held in June 2012, in the
city of Rio de Janeiro. Rio+20 is known as such because it hallmarks the
twentieth anniversary of the Conference of the United Nations on Environment and
Development (Rio 92) and should help to define the sustainable development
agenda for the coming decades.
To be confirmed as a partner, SEBRAE underwent a preliminary evaluation that demonstrated its commitment to sustainability, innovation and technology, by adopting these pillars as strategic priorities for assistance to micro and small enterprises in order to boost business competitiveness now that the market moves into a new model: "green economy".
Moreover, since its creation SEBRAE has contributed to economic and social development of the country by supporting entrepreneurship and improving the quality of management of micro and small enterprises.
"This is not a commercial partnership, but one based on principles of sustainability. We are talking about an international event that will discuss the fate of the planet in a high-level forum with participation of state and government leaders. Therefore, to become a partner, any company or entity must prove to be committed to sustainable development both in speech and in action, as is the case of Sebrae", said Minister Laudemar Aguiar, National Secretary of the National Committee for the Organization of Rio+20.
Through this partnership, SEBRAE will tranfer funds to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The funds will be managed by UNDP and allocated according to organization needs identified by the Conference National Organization (CNO) of Rio+20. The use of the resources will be audited by the United Nations system and, on request, by the Comptroller-General of the Union (CGU).
