Project Cajuru
To provide housing for the families with an income of up to three
minimum wages (US$335,57, according to the average exchange rate from June to
August 1998, of R$1,1622), using popular task-forces (‘mutirão’) as a
productive process and an educational instrument, and, in this effort, creating
a low-cost construction technology that is ecologically correct.
Based on the construction regime of the mutirão, and using pressed soil-cement bricks, we have been able to promote the organization and the participation of the beneficiaries, reducing by 34% the final costs of each housing unit in comparison to the costs of the conventional construction, while avoiding major environmental impacts.
