Brazilian good practices in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication
Environmental protection, economic development and social inclusion will be the three pillars of the Rio +20. Brazil will take this opportunity to show that it is possible to connect these concepts and transform them into reality.
The projects of social inclusion presented below are only a few samples of the various community initiatives that promote social well-being with sustainability. They are sponsored by public and private organizations. The selection criteria come from the experience acquired by public agencies, through periodic contests, which try to give visibility to successful social inclusion initiatives likely to be replicated in other areas of the country. Such projects range from local to national levels.
From another perspective, through macro-planning optics, the Brazilian Government develops social inclusion policies through the coordination of actions conducted by several Ministries. This strategy is summarized in the Program “Brazil without Poverty”, the successor of the Program “Zero Hunger”.
These initiatives will be presented with reference to the UN Millennium Goals:
1.ERADICATE EXTREME HUNGER AND POVERTY
2.ACHIEVE UNIVERSAL PRIMARY EDUCATION
3.PROMOTE GENDER EQUALITY AND EMPOWER WOMEN
6.COMBAT HIV/AIDS, MALARIA AND OTHER DISEASES
7.ENSURE ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
8.DEVELOP PARTNERSHIPS FOR DEVELOPMENT
