Committee for the Integration of the Hydrographic Basin of River Paraíba do Sul
Program seeks solutions for pollution
The basin of the Paraíba do Sul River is suffering with the severe
problems caused by pollution. Something had to be done, considering the importance
of the river for three important states of Brazil (Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo
and Minas Gerais).
In 1996, with the goal of promoting partnerships in the management of the water resources, the CEIVAP was created and the Program of Participative Mobilization was institutionalized, supporting the Program Curso D’Água (‘Water Course’) of Environmental Education and the Program of Capacity Building on the Management of Water Resources.
