The craft of producing pans is a 400-year old Indigenous tradition that
up to the late 1980s had been handed down from mother to daughter in
Goiabeiras/ES. In 1987, with only five members, the Association of Pan
Producers of Goiabeiras was created to fight for the rights of the working
women and to keep this icon of the local culture alive. Nowadays, the
association counts with over 120 artisan producers and has achieved many
conquests. Among them, the construction of a new and broader shed with internal
sections, and the registration of the profession of Pan Producers in the Official
Book of Traditional Knowledge-Forms, as a Brazilian Cultural Heritage.
