Reading Chest
Bahia´s comunity project against child labor and illiteracy
The Reading Chest project was created in 1999 by the
Movement for Community Organization as an additional strategy in the fight
against child labor and illiteracy in rural areas. Besides encouraging
reflective reading and reading as a fun activity, the project has opened doors
so that students can have access to education, arts, and sports. The Reading
Chest project has also contributed to ending school dropouts and improving
school quality, since children now take more pleasure in the classes they
attend.
