Rio-20: Member states refine negotiating mandate
We should make sure our own house is in order, and show what we are capable of,” said Ida Auken, Danish environment minister and president of the Council, which held an informal session, on 19 April in Horens, Denmark. In this way, the Council is sending a strong message confirming the negotiating mandate adopted by the Council, on 9 March. However, member states made no secret of their fears that the results of Rio+20 will not be consistent enough, and therefore specified what they expected of the meeting. The EU will be careful not to impose its views: it will have “an open approach, based on dialogue. We will go to the negotiations with proposals, but not with a pre-determined result,” the president of the Council added.
