Visas
A visa is a federal permit, issued by Brazil, allowing foreigners to enter the country. Most of the time, it can only be issued abroad. Travellers are advised to check the necessary requirements to obtain a visa in advance, as the entire process may take several days.
Visas are granted to foreigners who come to Brazil on diplomatic missions, official business, commercial business ventures, tourism, to visit friends and family, participating in sporting or artistic events, and attending seminars and conferences.
Foreign visitors must fill out the Visa Application Form - available in Portuguese, Spanish, French and English - individually.
When the need for a visa is waived, a permit is issued for foreigners to enter and remain within the country, within a fixed period of time. In this case, a visa request is not needed - so long as the visitor's passport is valid. This permit stems from diplomatic agreements signed between Brazil and certain countries; it is assessed according to the purpose of each trip.
