The Minister Ideli Salvatti, of the Department of Institutional Relations, met this morning with mayors and environmental representatives in order to build a national agenda for sustainable development after Rio +20. Rio’s State government was represented by the State Secretary of Finance, Renato Vilela, and the Municipality of Rio by the Vice-Mayor Carlos Muniz.

"Rio de Janeiro fulfilled the goal of reducing carbon emissions and we will reduce it even more, besides the commitment to sanitation," said Muniz. He ended by giving the Minister a certificate with 15.000 credits donated by the City for the use in carbon offsets. He said Brazil is able to perform many other events on the scale of Rio +20. And he promised that the 2016 Olympics will concern itself with sustainability.

Ideli Salvatti stressed the responsibility of each participant to take their commitments after the Rio +20, reminding that sustainable development has economic, social and environmental aspects.

"We are concluding one of the biggest world events, which produced a synergy by integrating this collective responsibility. Let's get out of with our hearts, arms and minds open to welcome the new commitments," concluded the Minister.
