Italy participates in the Rio +20 with a sustainable pavilion. The entrance of the stand is made entirely of bamboo, while the side walls have 56 photovoltaic cells that generate 50% of the energy consumed in the stand.

At the stand, solutions and projects of environmental nature of Italian companies and organizations, as well as the actions of the Ministry of Environment of Italy, were presented.

In the space, there will also be debates, workshops and seminars that will discuss the synergy between economic development and environmental preservation.

Italian projects are presented to the crowd in three rooms. One is the revitalization and urbanization of Favela do Leme (Leme’s Slum), which is being held in a partnership with the Rio de Janeiro’s City Hall. Another project is a polyhedron that projects images of various cities whose architecture is designed with environmental preservation in mind.
Moreover, there is a presentation in display prepared by the Italian Space Agency, Telespazio, which operates in the production of solar energy.

"We believe that green economy is the best way to overcome the current crisis and boost the development of other economies. Our pavilion is intended to show that this alternative is, not only environmentally friendly, but also economically viable," says the Italian Minister of the Environment, Corrado Clini.

The Minister also believes that the issue becomes a priority in light of the European crises and the growth of countries such as the BRICs (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).
