Exhibit at MAM invites us to think collectively about the future of the planet
An opportunity to think about the positive side of life; to discover how, out of the most negative situations, you can bring forth the best ideas to combat the social and environmental threats. This is the message you will find about the global campaign "The Future That We Want", which opened on Tuesday, March 12 at the Modern Art Museum (MAM) in Rio de Janeiro.
The space, which will be open to the public until June 23, shows some results of the global campaign initiated in November 2011 by the United Nations (UN).
Internationally, it is called "The Future That We Want." In Brazil, it was launched in May with a "more Brazilian flavor" and is called "I Am We", a campaign developed by the group Olgilvy, said Giancarlo Summa, Director of the United Nations Information Center (UNIC).
The space is an initiative of UNIC and the Brazilian National Organizing Committee of Rio +20. Panels are displayed with photos of famous people who joined the project and there are also four screens with videos of people from around the world. About 40 videos, 500 posts and 200 photos were selected for the exhibit.
Pictures of drawings made by children in Brazil and Japan, depicting how they imagine the future and how will their cities look like in this future are also being displayed.
"We all share the same ideas. The Brazilian and Japanese images have much in common," said Masaru Wanatabe, the Consul General of Japan in Brazil.
You can record video messages directly from a pulpit at the Rio +20 Conference, which will later go to the campaign’s website, or turn a wheel and choose between the seven main topics proposed for the global conversation: Water Resources, Jobs, Oceans, Energy, Cities, Food, Water and Disasters.
On a large panel covered with words representing the socio-environmental problems of the planet - famine, tsunamis and drought, for example - visitors can stick colored stickers with positive suggestions.
The MAM is located at Aterro do Flamengo, where the Peoples' Summit is being held. The campaign "The Future That We Want" will continue indefinitely on the internet and the social media.
"It follows the spirit of Rio+20, which is a starting point Conference and not an ending one. We are discussing issues and setting goals for the future," said Giancarlo Summa, Director of the United Nations Information Center (UNIC).
