The People’s Summit begins

CNO Rio+20
The summit should bring together over 15 thousand people until the June 23 at ‘Aterro do Flamengo’

The People’s Summit, a side event at the United Nation Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), opened on Friday and goes until June 23. Located at ‘Aterro do Flamengo’, it is expected to welcome around 15 thousand participants at over 600 programmed events.

Organized by about 200 civil society organizations, the Summit is structured around three main axes: denouncing the causes of the socio-environmental crisis, presenting practical solutions, and empowering social movements in Brazil and in the world.

During the summit, successful experiences in agro ecology and renewable energy will be presented. Also on the program is a Free Media Forum on which communications policies and other topics will be debated.

At the closing of the Summit, a report of the activities and an assessment of the actions taken since the Earth Summit, which was held 20 years ago during Rio 92, will be prepared.
