Check out the Rio+20’s activities at ‘Pier Mauá’, ‘Arena da Barra’ and ‘Parque dos Atletas’:
Pier Mauá
Located in a central area and with easy access, the ‘Pier Mauá’ will host events about
innovation, sustainable technologies and sustainability programs. Some of the key events
are the Innovation Exhibition for Sustainable Development in Warehouse 3 (Armazém 3) and
the ‘Pop Science’ fair in Warehouse 4 (Armazém 4).
Projects conducted by the Federal Government, by the Studies and Projects Financing
Institution (Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos - Finep) and by the civil society will be unveiled
and showcased in the following arrangement:
- Warehouse 1 (Armazém 1): Civil Society
- Warehouse 2 (Armazém 2): Ministries of Health, Agricultural Development, Communications and National Integration.
- Warehouse 3 (Armazém 3): Finep
- Warehouse 4 (Armazém 4): Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The ‘Pier Mauá’ is located downtown at Avenida Rodrigues Alves 10, Praça Mauá (Mauá
Square). The place will be open to the public from June 13-22, concurrently with the Rio+20
program. The events will be held at different times, from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. English and
Spanish translation will be available at some lectures.
Arena da Barra
The Barra Arena (‘Arena da Barra’) will stage a vast number of events that are part of the
Rio+20. The activities will take place in three main rooms, on June 13-22, from 10:00 am to 7:00
pm.
Room 1 (Sala 1): Over 10 events – four of them about accessibility – will be held in this room.
The program includes the relationship between youth and sustainability, recycling, economics
and a discussion about private reserves.
Room 2 (Sala 2): The topics of the debates to be held in Room 2 include sustainable transport,
animal well-being, the potential for carbon credit in the ‘caatinga’ (a type of vegetation
and an ecosystem characterized by that vegetation in the northeastern part of Brazil), the
relationship between fashion and sustainability, and a discussion about the relation between
biodiversity and urban management.
Room 3 (Sala 3): Topics related to rural sustainability will be the focus of the debates in Room
3. Some of the major topics are the ecological footprint, flooded forests, the recovery of areas
degraded by mining activities and the Recycle Everything Project (Projeto Recicla Tudo).
The Barra Arena is located at Avenida Embaixador Abelardo Bueno 3401, in Barra da Tijuca. The
Rio+20 Conference-related events program will take place on June 13-22, from 11:00 am to
7:00 pm.
Parque dos Atletas
This large open area in front of Riocentro is dedicated to governmental and intergovernmental
exhibitions. Pavilions have been built in this area and there will be exhibitions set up by foreign
countries, international organizations, and by the Brazilian Government at different levels
(municipal, state and federal) and branches (Legislative, Executive and Judicial).
On the site the Pavilhão Brasil stands out. It will host programs and projects oriented towards sustainable development implemented by the Executive branch of the Brazilian Government.The ‘Parque dos Atletas’ will also be a space for debate, with seminars, lectures and roundtables. Partner businesses will also be represented with projects in innovation and management with sustainability.

‘Parque dos Atletas’ is located at Avenida Salvador Allende, Barra da Tijuca. The events will be held on June 13-22, between 10:00 am and 7:00 pm.
