Rio-20: Member states refine negotiating mandate

In this way, the Council is sending a strong message confirming the negotiating mandate adopted by the Council, on 9 March. However, member states made no secret of their fears that the results of Rio+20 will not be consistent enough, and therefore specified what they expected of the meeting. The EU will be careful not to impose its views: it will have “an open approach, based on dialogue. We will go to the negotiations with proposals, but not with a pre-determined result,” the president of the Council added.
