Rio’s Subway System will be 100% accessible by the end of 2011

The Accessibility Project will ensure access to everyone who uses the subway network. Check out the changes that will be implemented by the end of 2011

Accessibility project to Rio's Subway system  Accessibility, one of the main concerns of the Brazilian Organization Committee of Rio +20, has also been an objective of Rio Metro since it renewed its concession contract at the beginning of the year.

In order to make all the stations in the system accessible, R$  20 million will be invested in the total accessibility project (Electro-mechanics, Tactile, Podotactile and Auditory).

According to Rio Metro, "Accessibility is to ensure access to everyone who uses buildings, urban spaces, public equipment and transportation with autonomy and safety. It is from accessibility that we obtain guidance on how to adapt collective use places for people to utilize them better, mainly those who have special needs."

Due to these needs, a study to define the best technologies to put these demands into practice was carried out.

Check out all the details of the Accessibility Project on Rio Metro’s official site.
