Institutional Program of Scientific Initiation – PIBIC in the Affirmative Actions (PIBIC-AF)
The Institutional Program of Scientific Initiation in the Affirmatives Actions (PIBIC-AF) is a partnership between the SEPPIR and the CNPq, which has been taking place since 2009 with the mission of complementing the affirmative actions that already exist at the public institutions of research and higher teaching.
The idea is to increase the participation of the beneficiaries of affirmative-action policies in academic activities, in particular the policies aimed at the correction of racial inequalities.
The Program grants 800 (eight hundred) scholarships of scientific initiation per year (700 by the CNPq and 100 by the SEPPIR) for undergraduate students who belong to the target group of college-entrance affirmative actions, primarily of the African-Brazilian population.
Global Results of the Action: from 2009 to (July) 2011, around 1400 (fourteen hundred) undergraduate students who benefit from affirmative actions have been involved in activities of scientific, technological and artistic-cultural research.
